These letters established the Festival of Purim—an annual celebration of these days at the appointed time, decreed by both Mordecai the Jew and Queen Esther. (The people decided to observe this festival, just as they had decided for themselves and their descendants to establish the times of fasting and mourning.)

Moses then told Aaron everything the Lord had commanded him to say. And he told him about the miraculous signs the Lord had commanded him to perform.

“Get up and prepare for action. Go out and tell them everything I tell you to say. Do not be afraid of them, or I will make you look foolish in front of them.

The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you.

You must give them my messages whether they listen or not. But they won’t listen, for they are completely rebellious!

“Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately.

“Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.”

Then the Lord spoke to Jonah a second time:

This time Jonah obeyed the Lord’s command and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to see it all.

Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.

But afterward Jesus found him in the Temple and told him, “Now you are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse may happen to you.”
