New Living Translation

And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”

Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.

“Should I ransom them from the grave? Should I redeem them from death? O death, bring on your terrors! O grave, bring on your plagues! For I will not take pity on them.

Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anyone what had happened, and then he told them to give her something to eat.

“But the third servant brought back only the original amount of money and said, ‘Master, I hid your money and kept it safe.

Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.

The Father and I are one.”

“Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”

Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”

Following Jewish burial custom, they wrapped Jesus’ body with the spices in long sheets of linen cloth.

He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in.

while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings.

For just as the Father gives life to those he raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone he wants.

“And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.

He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.

The Lord gives both death and life; he brings some down to the grave but raises others up.
