I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd.

The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will honor.

All the nations you made will come and bow before you, Lord; they will praise your holy name.

The words of the wise are like cattle prods—painful but helpful. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep.

In that day the heir to David’s throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world. The nations will rally to him, and the land where he lives will be a glorious place.

I will say to the north and south, ‘Bring my sons and daughters back to Israel from the distant corners of the earth.

He says, “You will do more than restore the people of Israel to me. I will make you a light to the Gentiles, and you will bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.”

The Lord has demonstrated his holy power before the eyes of all the nations. All the ends of the earth will see the victory of our God.

For the Sovereign Lord, who brings back the outcasts of Israel, says: I will bring others, too, besides my people Israel.”

I will be like a shepherd looking for his scattered flock. I will find my sheep and rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on that dark and cloudy day.

And I will set over them one shepherd, my servant David. He will feed them and be a shepherd to them.

They have wandered through all the mountains and all the hills, across the face of the earth, yet no one has gone to search for them.

I will unify them into one nation on the mountains of Israel. One king will rule them all; no longer will they be divided into two nations or into two kingdoms.

“My servant David will be their king, and they will have only one shepherd. They will obey my regulations and be careful to keep my decrees.

“Yet the time will come when Israel’s people will be like the sands of the seashore—too many to count! Then, at the place where they were told, ‘You are not my people,’ it will be said, ‘You are children of the living God.’

Many nations will join themselves to the Lord on that day, and they, too, will be my people. I will live among you, and you will know that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies sent me to you.

But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.”

“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it?

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.

But the one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice.

They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.”

And not only for that nation, but to bring together and unite all the children of God scattered around the world.

“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.

However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.

Peter has told you about the time God first visited the Gentiles to take from them a people for himself.

For I am with you, and no one will attack and harm you, for many people in this city belong to me.”

“Then he told me, ‘The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and hear him speak.

I want you to understand this mystery, dear brothers and sisters, so that you will not feel proud about yourselves. Some of the people of Israel have hard hearts, but this will last only until the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ.

As for us, we can’t help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth.

Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—

“Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”

Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.

And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor.

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
