Lord, you always give me justice when I bring a case before you. So let me bring you this complaint: Why are the wicked so prosperous? Why are evil people so happy?

“Have you noticed what people are saying?—‘The Lord chose Judah and Israel and then abandoned them!’ They are sneering and saying that Israel is not worthy to be counted as a nation.

The people of Israel and Judah are full of treachery against me,” says the Lord.

“Your older sister was Samaria, who lived with her daughters in the north. Your younger sister was Sodom, who lived with her daughters in the south.

But you have not merely sinned as they did. You quickly surpassed them in corruption.

For my people are determined to desert me. They call me the Most High, but they don’t truly honor me.

Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for your sins have brought you down.

People staggered from town to town looking for water, but there was never enough. But still you would not return to me,” says the Lord.

Judah has been unfaithful, and a detestable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. The men of Judah have defiled the Lord’s beloved sanctuary by marrying women who worship idols.
