But the Lord is the only true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King! The whole earth trembles at his anger. The nations cannot stand up to his wrath.

Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he worshiped the Lord, the Eternal God.

And when all the people saw it, they fell face down on the ground and cried out, “The Lord—he is God! Yes, the Lord is God!”

Then people all over the earth will know that the Lord alone is God and there is no other.

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.

For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach them, and without the Law to instruct them.

He shakes the earth from its place, and its foundations tremble.

The Lord is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.

Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

The earth trembles at his glance; the mountains smoke at his touch.

Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob.

For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.

He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.

Then the earth quaked and trembled. The foundations of the mountains shook; they quaked because of his anger.

The Lord rules over the floodwaters. The Lord reigns as king forever.

I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, Lord, for you are a faithful God.

I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?

The Lord gives the word, and a great army brings the good news.

You, O God, are my king from ages past, bringing salvation to the earth.

Your throne, O Lord, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past.

His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles.

Bend down, O Lord, and listen! Open your eyes, O Lord, and see! Listen to Sennacherib’s words of defiance against the living God.

But perhaps the Lord your God has heard the Assyrian chief of staff, sent by the king to defy the living God, and will punish him for his words. Oh, pray for those of us who are left!”

No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand.

Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.

All who invoke a blessing or take an oath will do so by the God of truth. For I will put aside my anger and forget the evil of earlier days.

But stop using this phrase, ‘prophecy from the Lord.’ For people are using it to give authority to their own ideas, turning upside down the words of our God, the living God, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Then when you swear by my name, saying, ‘As surely as the Lord lives,’ you could do so with truth, justice, and righteousness. Then you would be a blessing to the nations of the world, and all people would come and praise my name.”

I looked at the mountains and hills, and they trembled and shook.

The earth will shake with the shout, “Babylon has been taken!” and its cry of despair will be heard around the world.

The earth trembles and writhes in pain, for everything the Lord has planned against Babylon stands unchanged. Babylon will be left desolate without a single inhabitant.

How great are his signs, how powerful his wonders! His kingdom will last forever, his rule through all generations.

“After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal.

“I decree that everyone throughout my kingdom should tremble with fear before the God of Daniel. For he is the living God, and he will endure forever. His kingdom will never be destroyed, and his rule will never end.

He rescues and saves his people; he performs miraculous signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.”

He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal—it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.

The Lord is at the head of the column. He leads them with a shout. This is his mighty army, and they follow his orders. The day of the Lord is an awesome, terrible thing. Who can possibly survive?

The mountains melt beneath his feet and flow into the valleys like wax in a fire, like water pouring down a hill.

In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed.

Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence.

The mountains watched and trembled. Onward swept the raging waters. The mighty deep cried out, lifting its hands in submission.

When he stops, the earth shakes. When he looks, the nations tremble. He shatters the everlasting mountains and levels the eternal hills. He is the Eternal One!

“But who will be able to endure it when he comes? Who will be able to stand and face him when he appears? For he will be like a blazing fire that refines metal, or like a strong soap that bleaches clothes.

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I demand in the name of the living God—tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

“Friends, why are you doing this? We are merely human beings—just like you! We have come to bring you the Good News that you should turn from these worthless things and turn to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.

He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!

Can any living thing hear the voice of the living God from the heart of the fire as we did and yet survive?

for they keep talking about the wonderful welcome you gave us and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God.

All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen.

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.

It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Today you will know that the living God is among you. He will surely drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites ahead of you.

And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.

And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide.

“Lord, when you set out from Seir and marched across the fields of Edom, the earth trembled, and the cloudy skies poured down rain.

David asked the soldiers standing nearby, “What will a man get for killing this Philistine and ending his defiance of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?”

I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God!
