We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

“I’m in a desperate situation!” David replied to Gad. “But let me fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is very great. Do not let me fall into human hands.”

“For if you return to the Lord, your relatives and your children will be treated mercifully by their captors, and they will be able to return to this land. For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful. If you return to him, he will not continue to turn his face from you.”

They refused to obey and did not remember the miracles you had done for them. Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love. You did not abandon them,

But in your great mercy, you did not destroy them completely or abandon them forever. What a gracious and merciful God you are!

There once was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil.

He had seven sons and three daughters.

But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.

“But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.

The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.

The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

How kind the Lord is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours!

Come and show me your mercy, as you do for all who love your name.

The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

Look at those who are honest and good, for a wonderful future awaits those who love peace.

Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.

Yet he was merciful and forgave their sins and did not destroy them all. Many times he held back his anger and did not unleash his fury!

But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.

O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.

Joyful are those you discipline, Lord, those you teach with your instructions.

The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.

Finishing is better than starting. Patience is better than pride.

I will tell of the Lord’s unfailing love. I will praise the Lord for all he has done. I will rejoice in his great goodness to Israel, which he has granted according to his mercy and love.

In all their suffering he also suffered, and he personally rescued them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them. He lifted them up and carried them through all the years.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.

But the Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.

Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.

So he complained to the Lord about it: “Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people.

Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love.

‘The Lord is slow to anger and filled with unfailing love, forgiving every kind of sin and rebellion. But he does not excuse the guilty. He lays the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations.’

And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved.

He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him.

For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.

Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much,

But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved.

For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.

But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.

But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats.

So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment.
