Surely you wouldn’t do such a thing, destroying the righteous along with the wicked. Why, you would be treating the righteous and the wicked exactly the same! Surely you wouldn’t do that! Should not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”

Then at last everyone will say, “There truly is a reward for those who live for God; surely there is a God who judges justly here on earth.”

So God was good to the midwives, and the Israelites continued to multiply, growing more and more powerful.

The godly are showered with blessings; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.

Wise words bring many benefits, and hard work brings rewards.

Trouble chases sinners, while blessings reward the righteous.

The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

But even though a person sins a hundred times and still lives a long time, I know that those who fear God will be better off.

But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!

The Lord replied, “I will take care of you, Jeremiah. Your enemies will ask you to plead on their behalf in times of trouble and distress.

And I myself will punish you for your sinfulness, says the Lord. I will light a fire in your forests that will burn up everything around you.’”

But a beautiful cedar palace does not make a great king! Your father, Josiah, also had plenty to eat and drink. But he was just and right in all his dealings. That is why God blessed him.

This is what I told them: ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’

The person who sins is the one who will die. The child will not be punished for the parent’s sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child’s sins. Righteous people will be rewarded for their own righteous behavior, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness.

He said to him, “Walk through the streets of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of all who weep and sigh because of the detestable sins being committed in their city.”

But the land will become empty and desolate because of the wickedness of those who live there.

Seek the Lord, all who are humble, and follow his commands. Seek to do what is right and to live humbly. Perhaps even yet the Lord will protect you— protect you from his anger on that day of destruction.

Then you will again see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.”

“‘Well done!’ the king said. ‘You will be governor over five cities.’

Do not consume the blood, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what pleases the Lord.

For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.
