“So please, my lord, let me stay here as a slave instead of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers.
“That’s fair,” the man replied. “But only the one who stole the cup will be my slave. The rest of you may go free.”
My lord, I guaranteed to my father that I would take care of the boy. I told him, ‘If I don’t bring him back to you, I will bear the blame forever.’
For how can I return to my father if the boy is not with me? I couldn’t bear to see the anguish this would cause my father!”
When David saw the angel, he said to the Lord, “I am the one who has sinned and done wrong! But these people are as innocent as sheep—what have they done? Let your anger fall against me and my family.”
But now, if you will only forgive their sin—but if not, erase my name from the record you have written!”
for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed—cut off from Christ!—if that would save them.
Because of this oath, Jesus is the one who guarantees this better covenant with God.
We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
