So their father, Jacob, finally said to them, “If it can’t be avoided, then at least do this. Pack your bags with the best products of this land. Take them down to the man as gifts—balm, honey, gum, aromatic resin, pistachio nuts, and almonds.

The kings of the earth are bringing tribute to your Temple in Jerusalem.

The western kings of Tarshish and other distant lands will bring him tribute. The eastern kings of Sheba and Seba will bring him gifts.

Make vows to the Lord your God, and keep them. Let everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One.

So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey—the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live.

It’s poor judgment to guarantee another person’s debt or put up security for a friend.

Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people!

Many seek favors from a ruler; everyone is the friend of a person who gives gifts!

A secret gift calms anger; a bribe under the table pacifies fury.

Your love delights me, my treasure, my bride. Your love is better than wine, your perfume more fragrant than spices.

But I have promised you, ‘You will possess their land because I will give it to you as your possession—a land flowing with milk and honey.’ I am the Lord your God, who has set you apart from all other people.

When it was clear that we couldn’t persuade him, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”
