Genesis 35:3

What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.”

Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your father and grandfather and to your relatives there, and I will be with you.”

In fact, if the God of my father had not been on my side—the God of Abraham and the fearsome God of Isaac—you would have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen your abuse and my hard work. That is why he appeared to you last night and rebuked you!”

This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break.

Jacob was terrified at the news. He divided his household, along with the flocks and herds and camels, into two groups.

So they gave Jacob all their pagan idols and earrings, and he buried them under the great tree near Shechem.

Jacob built an altar there and named the place El-bethel (which means “God of Bethel”), because God had appeared to him there when he was fleeing from his brother, Esau.

Then he blessed Joseph and said, “May the God before whom my grandfather Abraham and my father, Isaac, walked— the God who has been my shepherd all my life, to this very day,

“Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress.

Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them.

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”

When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.

Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. He will be gracious if you ask for help. He will surely respond to the sound of your cries.

When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

“When you get to the oak of Tabor, you will see three men coming toward you who are on their way to worship God at Bethel. One will be bringing three young goats, another will have three loaves of bread, and the third will be carrying a wineskin full of wine.
