Genesis 32:10

New Living Translation

I am not worthy of all the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant. When I left home and crossed the Jordan River, I owned nothing except a walking stick. Now my household fills two large camps!

Then Abraham spoke again. “Since I have begun, let me speak further to my Lord, even though I am but dust and ashes.

“O Lord, God of my master, Abraham,” he prayed. “Please give me success today, and show unfailing love to my master, Abraham.

“Praise the Lord, the God of my master, Abraham,” he said. “The Lord has shown unfailing love and faithfulness to my master, for he has led me straight to my master’s relatives.”

At the top of the stairway stood the Lord, and he said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants.

What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.”

As a result, Jacob became very wealthy, with large flocks of sheep and goats, female and male servants, and many camels and donkeys.

Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your father and grandfather and to your relatives there, and I will be with you.”

and now I own cattle, donkeys, flocks of sheep and goats, and many servants, both men and women. I have sent these messengers to inform my lord of my coming, hoping that you will be friendly to me.’”

Jacob was terrified at the news. He divided his household, along with the flocks and herds and camels, into two groups.

David soon arrived at Mahanaim. By now, Absalom had mobilized the entire army of Israel and was leading his troops across the Jordan River.

Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and prayed, “Who am I, O Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?

The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.

And though you started with little, you will end with much.

I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.”

You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great.

May he reign under God’s protection forever. May your unfailing love and faithfulness watch over him.

Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.

They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.

Unfailing love and truth have met together. Righteousness and peace have kissed!

The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.

Then I said, “It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”

I will tell of the Lord’s unfailing love. I will praise the Lord for all he has done. I will rejoice in his great goodness to Israel, which he has granted according to his mercy and love.

You will show us your faithfulness and unfailing love as you promised to our ancestors Abraham and Jacob long ago.

In the same way, when you obey me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’”

When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.”

You have made me act like a fool. You ought to be writing commendations for me, for I am not at all inferior to these “super apostles,” even though I am nothing at all.

Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.

In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
