Yes, for twenty years I slaved in your house! I worked for fourteen years earning your two daughters, and then six more years for your flock. And you changed my wages ten times!

Stay there with him until your brother cools off.

Laban said to him, “You shouldn’t work for me without pay just because we are relatives. Tell me how much your wages should be.”

Tell me how much I owe you. Whatever it is, I’ll pay it.”

“For twenty years I have been with you, caring for your flocks. In all that time your sheep and goats never miscarried. In all those years I never used a single ram of yours for food.

“I worked for you through the scorching heat of the day and through cold and sleepless nights.

You know how hard I have worked for your father,

but he has cheated me, changing my wages ten times. But God has not allowed him to do me any harm.

He told them, “Give this message to my master Esau: ‘Humble greetings from your servant Jacob. Until now I have been living with Uncle Laban,

But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.

I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not.
