Genesis 26:7

New Living Translation

When the men who lived there asked Isaac about his wife, Rebekah, he said, “She is my sister.” He was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “They will kill me to get her, because she is so beautiful.”

As he was approaching the border of Egypt, Abram said to his wife, Sarai, “Look, you are a very beautiful woman.

So please tell them you are my sister. Then they will spare my life and treat me well because of their interest in you.”

When the palace officials saw her, they sang her praises to Pharaoh, their king, and Sarai was taken into his palace.

Abraham replied, “I thought, ‘This is a godless place. They will want my wife and will kill me to get her.’

Rebekah was very beautiful and old enough to be married, but she was still a virgin. She went down to the spring, filled her jug, and came up again.

But some time later, Abimelech, king of the Philistines, looked out his window and saw Isaac caressing Rebekah.

There was no sparkle in Leah’s eyes, but Rachel had a beautiful figure and a lovely face.

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.

“Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her

Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.
