Genesis 19:1

New Living Translation

That evening the two angels came to the entrance of the city of Sodom. Lot was sitting there, and when he saw them, he stood up to meet them. Then he welcomed them and bowed with his face to the ground.

This is the account of Terah’s family. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot.

So Abram settled in the land of Canaan, and Lot moved his tents to a place near Sodom and settled among the cities of the plain.

Then the men got up from their meal and looked out toward Sodom. As they left, Abraham went with them to send them on their way.

The other men turned and headed toward Sodom, but the Lord remained with Abraham.

But the two angels reached out, pulled Lot into the house, and bolted the door.

“My lords,” he said, “come to my home to wash your feet, and be my guests for the night. You may then get up early in the morning and be on your way again.” “Oh no,” they replied. “We’ll just spend the night out here in the city square.”

Abraham again bowed low before the citizens of the land,

Joseph moved the boys, who were at their grandfather’s knees, and he bowed with his face to the ground.

“Those were the days when I went to the city gate and took my place among the honored leaders.

I have never turned away a stranger but have opened my doors to everyone.

I am the favorite topic of town gossip, and all the drunks sing about me.

“And the world will be as it was in the days of Lot. People went about their daily business—eating and drinking, buying and selling, farming and building—

Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

Boaz went to the town gate and took a seat there. Just then the family redeemer he had mentioned came by, so Boaz called out to him, “Come over here and sit down, friend. I want to talk to you.” So they sat down together.
