When the princess opened it, she saw the baby. The little boy was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This must be one of the Hebrew children,” she said.

Forgive your people who have sinned against you. Forgive all the offenses they have committed against you. Make their captors merciful to them,

O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honoring you. Please grant me success today by making the king favorable to me. Put it into his heart to be kind to me.” In those days I was the king’s cup-bearer.

He even caused their captors to treat them with kindness.

Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Throw every newborn Hebrew boy into the Nile River. But you may let the girls live.”

Soon Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe in the river, and her attendants walked along the riverbank. When the princess saw the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it for her.

Then the baby’s sister approached the princess. “Should I go and find one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” she asked.

The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; he guides it wherever he pleases.

He had ordered all the people to free their Hebrew slaves—both men and women. No one was to keep a fellow Judean in bondage.

When they had to abandon him, Pharaoh’s daughter adopted him and raised him as her own son.

Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.
