For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Then Abraham spoke again. “Since I have begun, let me speak further to my Lord, even though I am but dust and ashes.

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.”

Though they are young, their bones will lie in the dust.

Why not just forgive my sin and take away my guilt? For soon I will lie down in the dust and die. When you look for me, I will be gone.”

For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.

But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust.

When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them.

I hate those who worship worthless idols. I trust in the Lord.

You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals!”

So King Zedekiah secretly promised him, “As surely as the Lord our Creator lives, I will not kill you or hand you over to the men who want you dead.”

Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace.

This message concerning the fate of Israel came from the Lord: “This message is from the Lord, who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundations of the earth, and formed the human spirit.

But Moses and Aaron fell face down on the ground. “O God,” they pleaded, “you are the God who gives breath to all creatures. Must you be angry with all the people when only one man sins?”

“O Lord, you are the God who gives breath to all creatures. Please appoint a new man as leader for the community.

Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last.

As they stoned him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect.

Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever?
