These are the words of the Teacher, King David’s son, who ruled in Jerusalem.

Solomon ruled in Jerusalem over all Israel for forty years.

He also reports that you have appointed prophets in Jerusalem to proclaim about you, ‘Look! There is a king in Judah!’ “You can be very sure that this report will get back to the king, so I suggest that you come and talk it over with me.”

I have told all your people about your justice. I have not been afraid to speak out, as you, O Lord, well know.

These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.

Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

I, the Teacher, was king of Israel, and I lived in Jerusalem.

“This is my conclusion,” says the Teacher. “I discovered this after looking at the matter from every possible angle.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.

“Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.”

And God did not spare the ancient world—except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood.
