Daniel 9:16

New Living Translation

In view of all your faithful mercies, Lord, please turn your furious anger away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain. All the neighboring nations mock Jerusalem and your people because of our sins and the sins of our ancestors.

When he had proved himself faithful, you made a covenant with him to give him and his descendants the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites, and Girgashites. And you have done what you promised, for you are always true to your word.

Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my plea! Answer me because you are faithful and righteous.

O Lord, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right.

Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen!

Save me and rescue me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me, and set me free.

We are mocked by our neighbors, an object of scorn and derision to those around us.

Now restore us again, O God of our salvation. Put aside your anger against us once more.

Your enemies have mocked me, O Lord; they mock your anointed king wherever he goes.

You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.

That is why the Lord’s anger burns against his people, and why he has raised his fist to crush them. The mountains tremble, and the corpses of his people litter the streets like garbage. But even then the Lord’s anger is not satisfied. His fist is still poised to strike!

I will make them an object of horror and a symbol of evil to every nation on earth. They will be disgraced and mocked, taunted and cursed, wherever I scatter them.

Yes, I will pursue them with war, famine, and disease, and I will scatter them around the world. In every nation where I send them, I will make them an object of damnation, horror, contempt, and mockery.

“From the time this city was built until now, it has done nothing but anger me, so I am determined to get rid of it.

“The sins of Israel and Judah—the sins of the people of Jerusalem, the kings, the officials, the priests, and the prophets—have stirred up my anger.

you are guilty because of the blood you have shed. You are defiled because of the idols you have made. Your day of destruction has come! You have reached the end of your years. I will make you an object of mockery throughout the world.

“So I will turn you into a ruin, a mockery in the eyes of the surrounding nations and to all who pass by.

He will stop between the glorious holy mountain and the sea and will pitch his royal tents. But while he is there, his time will suddenly run out, and no one will help him.

I went on praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people, pleading with the Lord my God for Jerusalem, his holy mountain.

“Then you will know that I, the Lord your God, live in Zion, my holy mountain. Jerusalem will be holy forever, and foreign armies will never conquer her again.

“And now the Lord says: I am returning to Mount Zion, and I will live in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City; the mountain of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will be called the Holy Mountain.

In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

The Lord makes some poor and others rich; he brings some down and lifts others up.
