Daniel 9:1

It was the first year of the reign of Darius the Mede, the son of Ahasuerus, who became king of the Babylonians.

Years later when Xerxes began his reign, the enemies of Judah wrote a letter of accusation against the people of Judah and Jerusalem.

These events happened in the days of King Xerxes, who reigned over 127 provinces stretching from India to Ethiopia.

Daniel remained in the royal service until the first year of the reign of King Cyrus.

“Select only strong, healthy, and good-looking young men,” he said. “Make sure they are well versed in every branch of learning, are gifted with knowledge and good judgment, and are suited to serve in the royal palace. Train these young men in the language and literature of Babylon.”
