Now then, listen to this message from the Lord: “You say, ‘Don’t prophesy against Israel. Stop preaching against my people.’

At the Lord’s command, a man of God from Judah went to Bethel, arriving there just as Jeroboam was approaching the altar to burn incense.

Then Micaiah continued, “Listen to what the Lord says! I saw the Lord sitting on his throne with all the armies of heaven around him, on his right and on his left.

He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel to commit.

They tell the seers, “Stop seeing visions!” They tell the prophets, “Don’t tell us what is right. Tell us nice things. Tell us lies.

“Son of man, prophesy against the false prophets of Israel who are inventing their own prophecies. Say to them, ‘Listen to the word of the Lord.

“Therefore, you prostitute, listen to this message from the Lord!

“Son of man, turn and face the south and speak out against it; prophesy against the brushlands of the Negev.

“Son of man, turn and face Jerusalem and prophesy against Israel and her sanctuaries.

“But you caused the Nazirites to sin by making them drink wine, and you commanded the prophets, ‘Shut up!’

Don’t bother us with your prophecies here in Bethel. This is the king’s sanctuary and the national place of worship!”

“Don’t say such things,” the people respond. “Don’t prophesy like that. Such disasters will never come our way!”

Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew. Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants.

Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stop! Listen to what the Lord told me last night!” “What did he tell you?” Saul asked.
