For I know how stubborn and obstinate you are. Your necks are as unbending as iron. Your heads are as hard as bronze.

Lord, you are searching for honesty. You struck your people, but they paid no attention. You crushed them, but they refused to be corrected. They are determined, with faces set like stone; they have refused to repent.

“But you have cultivated wickedness and harvested a thriving crop of sins. You have eaten the fruit of lies— trusting in your military might, believing that great armies could make your nation safe.

They spout empty words and make covenants they don’t intend to keep. So injustice springs up among them like poisonous weeds in a farmer’s field.

And I will destroy their king and slaughter all their princes,” says the Lord.

“My people have forgotten how to do right,” says the Lord. “Their fortresses are filled with wealth taken by theft and violence.

You twist justice, making it a bitter pill for the oppressed. You treat the righteous like dirt.

Both their hands are equally skilled at doing evil! Officials and judges alike demand bribes. The people with influence get what they want, and together they scheme to twist justice.

And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.
