“Then take him away and judge him by your own law,” Pilate told them. “Only the Romans are permitted to execute someone,” the Jewish leaders replied.

You have brought these men here, but they have stolen nothing from the temple and have not spoken against our goddess.

They yelled, threw off their coats, and tossed handfuls of dust into the air.

My accusers never found me arguing with anyone in the Temple, nor stirring up a riot in any synagogue or on the streets of the city.
