Acts 20:1

New Living Translation

When the uproar was over, Paul sent for the believers and encouraged them. Then he said good-bye and left for Macedonia.

Jacob was half blind because of his age and could hardly see. So Joseph brought the boys close to him, and Jacob kissed and embraced them.

When he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. Both of them stayed there with the church for a full year, teaching large crowds of people. (It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians.)

From there we reached Philippi, a major city of that district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. And we stayed there several days.

That night Paul had a vision: A man from Macedonia in northern Greece was standing there, pleading with him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!”

Afterward Paul felt compelled by the Spirit to go over to Macedonia and Achaia before going to Jerusalem. “And after that,” he said, “I must go on to Rome!”

Paul went down, bent over him, and took him into his arms. “Don’t worry,” he said, “he’s alive!”

While there, he encouraged the believers in all the towns he passed through. Then he traveled down to Greece,

where he stayed for three months. He was preparing to sail back to Syria when he discovered a plot by some Jews against his life, so he decided to return through Macedonia.

They all cried as they embraced and kissed him good-bye.

They were convinced by the power of miraculous signs and wonders and by the power of God’s Spirit. In this way, I have fully presented the Good News of Christ from Jerusalem all the way to Illyricum.

I am coming to visit you after I have been to Macedonia, for I am planning to travel through Macedonia.

When we arrived in Macedonia, there was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside.

Greet all the brothers and sisters with a sacred kiss.

When I left for Macedonia, I urged you to stay there in Ephesus and stop those whose teaching is contrary to the truth.
