Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside.

The words of the wise are like cattle prods—painful but helpful. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep.

The watchman replies, “Morning is coming, but night will soon return. If you wish to ask again, then come back and ask.”

The survivors who escape to the mountains will moan like doves, weeping for their sins.

“I asked, ‘What should I do, Lord?’ “And the Lord told me, ‘Get up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told everything you are to do.’

When they heard this, the high council was furious and decided to kill them.

The Jewish leaders were infuriated by Stephen’s accusation, and they shook their fists at him in rage.

At one time I lived without understanding the law. But when I learned the command not to covet, for instance, the power of sin came to life,
