He also had a debate with some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. When he told them about Jesus and his resurrection, they said, “What’s this babbler trying to say with these strange ideas he’s picked up?” Others said, “He seems to be preaching about some foreign gods.”

Don’t waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the wisest advice.

There is more hope for fools than for people who think they are wise.

When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd surrounding them, and some teachers of religious law were arguing with them.

As Jesus was leaving, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees became hostile and tried to provoke him with many questions.

that the Messiah would suffer and be the first to rise from the dead, and in this way announce God’s light to Jews and Gentiles alike.”

These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead.

And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.”

But one day some men from the Synagogue of Freed Slaves, as it was called, started to debate with him. They were Jews from Cyrene, Alexandria, Cilicia, and the province of Asia.

Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.

Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise.

Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools, but you claim to be so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are so powerful! You are honored, but we are ridiculed.

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.
