Acts 13:36

New Living Translation

This is not a reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his own generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed.

By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.”

For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong.

Then David died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David.

In the past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who really led the forces of Israel. And the Lord your God told you, ‘You will be the shepherd of my people Israel. You will be the leader of my people Israel.’”

So David reigned over all Israel and did what was just and right for all his people.

He died at a ripe old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth, and honor. Then his son Solomon ruled in his place.

When Jehoshaphat died, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. Then his son Jehoram became the next king.

When Uzziah died, he was buried with his ancestors; his grave was in a nearby burial field belonging to the kings, for the people said, “He had leprosy.” And his son Jotham became the next king.

When he died, he was buried in the City of David, named for his father. Then his son Rehoboam became the next king.

What if I call the grave my father, and the maggot my mother or my sister?

But both are buried in the same dust, both eaten by the same maggots.

Like sheep, they are led to the grave, where death will be their shepherd. In the morning the godly will rule over them. Their bodies will rot in the grave, far from their grand estates.

to live forever and never see the grave.

“The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more.

“Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”

But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’

“Dear brothers, think about this! You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us.

for I didn’t shrink from declaring all that God wants you to know.

He fell to his knees, shouting, “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died.

Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen. A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria.

In that case, all who have died believing in Christ are lost!

After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.
