This letter is from John, the elder. I am writing to Gaius, my dear friend, whom I love in the truth.

This they did, entrusting their gifts to Barnabas and Saul to take to the elders of the church in Jerusalem.

Soon the whole city was filled with confusion. Everyone rushed to the amphitheater, dragging along Gaius and Aristarchus, who were Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia.

Several men were traveling with him. They were Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea; Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe; Timothy; and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia.

Gaius says hello to you. He is my host and also serves as host to the whole church. Erastus, the city treasurer, sends you his greetings, and so does our brother Quartus.

I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius,

And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share in his glory when he is revealed to the whole world. As a fellow elder, I appeal to you:

Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.

Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.
