2 Timothy 4:2

New Living Translation

Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.

I have told all your people about your justice. I have not been afraid to speak out, as you, O Lord, well know.

“Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.”

And he added, “God blesses those who do not fall away because of me.”

So they earnestly begged Jesus to help the man. “If anyone deserves your help, he does,” they said,

But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.”

There, in the town of Salamis, they went to the Jewish synagogues and preached the word of God. John Mark went with them as their assistant.

On the Sabbath we went a little way outside the city to a riverbank, where we thought people would be meeting for prayer, and we sat down to speak with some women who had gathered there.

On the first day of the week, we gathered with the local believers to share in the Lord’s Supper. Paul was preaching to them, and since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight.

When we arrived in Rome, Paul was permitted to have his own private lodging, though he was guarded by a soldier.

And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.

God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you.

Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains.

So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you. In this way, you imitated both us and the Lord.

Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.

Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.

Those who sin should be reprimanded in front of the whole church; this will serve as a strong warning to others.

If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.

Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth.

But you, Timothy, certainly know what I teach, and how I live, and what my purpose in life is. You know my faith, my patience, my love, and my endurance.

This is true. So reprimand them sternly to make them strong in the faith.

You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say.

I urge you, dear brothers and sisters, to pay attention to what I have written in this brief exhortation.

I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
