That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.

I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.

“Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth and the sorrows of widowhood.

The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.

And his name will be the hope of all the world.”

“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.

On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’

I assure you, even wicked Sodom will be better off than such a town on judgment day.

Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last.

I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.

For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.

Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and declared, “It was necessary that we first preach the word of God to you Jews. But since you have rejected it and judged yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we will offer it to the Gentiles.

Then the Jews stirred up the influential religious women and the leaders of the city, and they incited a mob against Paul and Barnabas and ran them out of town.

But he said, “Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but even to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus.”

As they stoned him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

And I will show him how much he must suffer for my name’s sake.”

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.

God warned them of this in the Scriptures when he said, “I am placing a stone in Jerusalem that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. But anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”

He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.

But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.

For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.

I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death,

He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ

as they try to keep us from preaching the Good News of salvation to the Gentiles. By doing this, they continue to pile up their sins. But the anger of God has caught up with them at last.

But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.

Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.

May the Lord show special kindness to Onesiphorus and all his family because he often visited and encouraged me. He was never ashamed of me because I was in chains.

May the Lord show him special kindness on the day of Christ’s return. And you know very well how helpful he was in Ephesus.

So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.

And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained.

And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone.

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.

Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.

And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.

But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name!

So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.

Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.
