And David became more and more powerful, because the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies was with him.

So David reigned over all Israel and did what was just and right for all his people.

Years before, David had defeated Edom. Joab, his army commander, had stayed to bury some of the Israelite soldiers who had died in battle. While there, they killed every male in Edom.

(There was no king in Edom at that time, only a deputy.)

Amaziah also killed 10,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. He also conquered Sela and changed its name to Joktheel, as it is called to this day.

So the Lord was with him, and Hezekiah was successful in everything he did. He revolted against the king of Assyria and refused to pay him tribute.
