he sent his son Joram to congratulate King David for his successful campaign. Hadadezer and Toi had been enemies and were often at war. Joram presented David with many gifts of silver, gold, and bronze.

After greeting them, he asked, “How is your father, the old man you spoke about? Is he still alive?”

King David dedicated all these gifts to the Lord, as he did with the silver and gold from the other nations he had defeated—

When King Toi of Hamath heard that David had destroyed the entire army of Hadadezer,

And all the royal officials have gone to King David and congratulated him, saying, ‘May your God make Solomon’s fame even greater than your own, and may Solomon’s reign be even greater than yours!’ Then the king bowed his head in worship as he lay in his bed,

From then on King Hezekiah became highly respected among all the surrounding nations, and many gifts for the Lord arrived at Jerusalem, with valuable presents for King Hezekiah, too.

And may those who pass by refuse to give them this blessing: “The Lord bless you; we bless you in the Lord’s name.”

Soon after this, Merodach-baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent Hezekiah his best wishes and a gift. He had heard that Hezekiah had been very sick and that he had recovered.

Just as Saul was finishing with the burnt offering, Samuel arrived. Saul went out to meet and welcome him,
