The rich man owned a great many sheep and cattle.

And David realized that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel and had blessed his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.

He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord.

These are the sons of David who were born in Hebron: The oldest was Amnon, whose mother was Ahinoam from Jezreel. The second was Daniel, whose mother was Abigail from Carmel.

These were the sons of David, not including his sons born to his concubines. Their sister was named Tamar.

Meanwhile, Abijah of Judah grew more and more powerful. He married fourteen wives and had twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

The king must not take many wives for himself, because they will turn his heart away from the Lord. And he must not accumulate large amounts of wealth in silver and gold for himself.

David also married Ahinoam from Jezreel, making both of them his wives.
