2 Samuel 4:8

New Living Translation

When they arrived at Hebron, they presented Ishbosheth’s head to David. “Look!” they exclaimed to the king. “Here is the head of Ishbosheth, the son of your enemy Saul who tried to kill you. Today the Lord has given my lord the king revenge on Saul and his entire family!”

Then Zadok’s son Ahimaaz said, “Let me run to the king with the good news that the Lord has rescued him from his enemies.”

Then the man from Ethiopia arrived and said, “I have good news for my lord the king. Today the Lord has rescued you from all those who rebelled against you.”

But Abner son of Ner, the commander of Saul’s army, had already gone to Mahanaim with Saul’s son Ishbosheth.

He is the God who pays back those who harm me; he brings down the nations under me

I will tell about your righteous deeds all day long, for everyone who tried to hurt me has been shamed and humiliated.

“Get up!” the angel said. “Take the child and his mother back to the land of Israel, because those who were trying to kill the child are dead.”

and he suddenly hurled it at David, intending to pin him to the wall. But David escaped him twice.

Saul now urged his servants and his son Jonathan to assassinate David. But Jonathan, because of his strong affection for David,

But Saul sent the troops back to get David. He ordered, “Bring him to me in his bed so I can kill him!”

David now fled from Naioth in Ramah and found Jonathan. “What have I done?” he exclaimed. “What is my crime? How have I offended your father that he is so determined to kill me?”

One day near Horesh, David received the news that Saul was on the way to Ziph to search for him and kill him.

“Now’s your opportunity!” David’s men whispered to him. “Today the Lord is telling you, ‘I will certainly put your enemy into your power, to do with as you wish.’” So David crept forward and cut off a piece of the hem of Saul’s robe.

“Even when you are chased by those who seek to kill you, your life is safe in the care of the Lord your God, secure in his treasure pouch! But the lives of your enemies will disappear like stones shot from a sling!
