David sang this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul.

Then Nathan said to David, “You are that man! The Lord, the God of Israel, says: I anointed you king of Israel and saved you from the power of Saul.

and delivers me from my enemies. You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies; you save me from violent opponents.

On that day David gave to Asaph and his fellow Levites this song of thanksgiving to the Lord:

The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.

Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High.

Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord: “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; he has hurled both horse and rider into the sea.

And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.

So Moses recited this entire song publicly to the assembly of Israel:

Yes, and the Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into his heavenly Kingdom. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.

On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang this song:

David now stayed in the strongholds of the wilderness and in the hill country of Ziph. Saul hunted him day after day, but God didn’t let Saul find him.

May the Lord therefore judge which of us is right and punish the guilty one. He is my advocate, and he will rescue me from your power!”

“Even when you are chased by those who seek to kill you, your life is safe in the care of the Lord your God, secure in his treasure pouch! But the lives of your enemies will disappear like stones shot from a sling!

Now may the Lord value my life, even as I have valued yours today. May he rescue me from all my troubles.”

But David kept thinking to himself, “Someday Saul is going to get me. The best thing I can do is escape to the Philistines. Then Saul will stop hunting for me in Israelite territory, and I will finally be safe.”
