The king and all who were with him grew weary along the way, so they rested when they reached the Jordan River.

Now Ahithophel urged Absalom, “Let me choose 12,000 men to start out after David tonight.

Meanwhile, the king of Aram had issued these orders to his thirty-two chariot commanders: “Attack only the king of Israel. Don’t bother with anyone else!”

You don’t realize that it’s better for you that one man should die for the people than for the whole nation to be destroyed.”

They attacked you when you were exhausted and weary, and they struck down those who were straggling behind. They had no fear of God.
