Zadok and all the Levites also came along, carrying the Ark of the Covenant of God. They set down the Ark of God, and Abiathar offered sacrifices until everyone had passed out of the city.

The king also told Zadok the priest, “Look, here is my plan. You and Abiathar should return quietly to the city with your son Ahimaaz and Abiathar’s son Jonathan.

Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, will be there. Tell them about the plans being made in the king’s palace,

Sheva was the court secretary. Zadok and Abiathar were the priests.

After the men who were carrying the Ark of the Lord had gone six steps, David sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf.

Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were the priests. Seraiah was the court secretary.

Then the king appointed Benaiah to command the army in place of Joab, and he installed Zadok the priest to take the place of Abiathar.

Then he commanded, “No one except the Levites may carry the Ark of God. The Lord has chosen them to carry the Ark of the Lord and to serve him forever.”

This area is set aside for the ordained priests, the descendants of Zadok who served me faithfully and did not go astray with the people of Israel and the rest of the Levites.

The camp will be ready to move when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the sacred articles. The Kohathites will come and carry these things to the next destination. Only Abiathar, one of the sons of Ahimelech, escaped and fled to David.

The Ark of God was captured, and Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were killed.
