One day Elisha went to the town of Shunem. A wealthy woman lived there, and she urged him to come to her home for a meal. After that, whenever he passed that way, he would stop there for something to eat.

But Lot insisted, so at last they went home with him. Lot prepared a feast for them, complete with fresh bread made without yeast, and they ate.

He was very old—eighty years of age—and very wealthy. He was the one who had provided food for the king during his stay in Mahanaim.

So they searched throughout the land of Israel for a beautiful girl, and they found Abishag from Shunem and brought her to the king.

One day when her child was older, he went out to help his father, who was working with the harvesters.

He owned 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 teams of oxen, and 500 female donkeys. He also had many servants. He was, in fact, the richest person in that entire area.

Sometimes the elders are not wise. Sometimes the aged do not understand justice.

So she seduced him with her pretty speech and enticed him with her flattery.

The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more.

for he will be great in the eyes of the Lord. He must never touch wine or other alcoholic drinks. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even before his birth.

So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.

but they begged him, “Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.” So he went home with them.

She and her household were baptized, and she asked us to be her guests. “If you agree that I am a true believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my home.” And she urged us until we agreed.

“You are welcome to stay with me,” the old man said. “I will give you anything you might need. But whatever you do, don’t spend the night in the square.”

The Philistines set up their camp at Shunem, and Saul gathered all the army of Israel and camped at Gilboa.
