When Jehoash died, he was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. Then his son Jeroboam II became the next king.

For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong.

If you do not act, my son Solomon and I will be treated as criminals as soon as my lord the king has died.”

Then he said to Jeroboam, “Take ten of these pieces, for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I am about to tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon, and I will give ten of the tribes to you!

Jeroboam II, the son of Jehoash, began to rule over Israel in the fifteenth year of King Amaziah’s reign in Judah. He reigned in Samaria forty-one years.

So the Lord’s message to Jehu came true: “Your descendants will be kings of Israel down to the fourth generation.”

The Lord gave this message to Hosea son of Beeri during the years when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were kings of Judah, and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel.
