2 Corinthians 7:1

New Living Translation

Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.

These were his instructions to them: “You must always act in the fear of the Lord, with faithfulness and an undivided heart.

How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word.

Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.

Unfailing love and faithfulness make atonement for sin. By fearing the Lord, people avoid evil.

Who can say, “I have cleansed my heart; I am pure and free from sin”?

They are pure in their own eyes, but they are filthy and unwashed.

All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech.

So refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy. But remember that youth, with a whole life before you, is meaningless.

Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways.

Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.

I have seen your adultery and lust, and your disgusting idol worship out in the fields and on the hills. What sorrow awaits you, Jerusalem! How long before you are pure?”

O Jerusalem, cleanse your heart that you may be saved. How long will you harbor your evil thoughts?

But if the spot disappears from the clothing, the fabric, or the leather article after it has been washed, it must be washed again; then it will be ceremonially clean.

“A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad.

But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.

God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.

for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

May he, as a result, make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy as you stand before God our Father when our Lord Jesus comes again with all his holy people. Amen.

God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives.

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.

You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect.

Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.

God’s promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it.

Dear friends, even though we are talking this way, we really don’t believe it applies to you. We are confident that you are meant for better things, things that come with salvation.

Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.

And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as “temporary residents.”

You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.

Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.

In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.
