Then David died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David.

But David captured the fortress of Zion, which is now called the City of David.

So David made the fortress his home, and he called it the City of David. He extended the city, starting at the supporting terraces and working inward.

For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong.

If you do not act, my son Solomon and I will be treated as criminals as soon as my lord the king has died.”

When the news reached Hadad in Egypt that David and his commander Joab were both dead, he said to Pharaoh, “Let me return to my own country.”

When Jotham died, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. And his son Ahaz became the next king.

When Ahaz died, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. Then his son Hezekiah became the next king.

When Jehoram died, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. Then his son Ahaziah became the next king.

David made the fortress his home, and that is why it is called the City of David.

He died at a ripe old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth, and honor. Then his son Solomon ruled in his place.

He was buried among the kings in the City of David, because he had done so much good in Israel for God and his Temple.

When he died, he was buried in the City of David, named for his father. Then his son Rehoboam became the next king.

This is not a reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his own generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed.

“Dear brothers, think about this! You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us.
