But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?”

Shall words of wind have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?

Why do you contend with Him? For He does not give an accounting of any of His words.

Who has assigned Him His way, Or who has said, ‘You have done wrong’?

“Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”

Once I have spoken, but I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.”

“Would you indeed annul My judgment? Would you condemn Me that you may be justified?

“For He is not a man, as I am, That I may answer Him, And that we should go to court together.

Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? Or shall the saw exalt itself against him who saws with it? As if a rod could wield itself against those who lift it up, Or as if a staff could lift up, as if it were not wood!

Surely you have things turned around! Shall the potter be esteemed as the clay; For shall the thing made say of him who made it, “He did not make me”? Or shall the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?

But now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.

“O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!

All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?”

He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’

But He said to him, “Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?”

Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.

Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.

And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?

Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?

What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?

useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.

Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,

But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
