Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.

Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear,

For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven,

But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to Him, “We are able.”

Because of the sound of my groaning My bones cling to my skin.

My soul also is greatly troubled; But You, O Lord—how long?

He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness.

O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

I am weary with my crying; My throat is dry; My eyes fail while I wait for my God.

To hear the groaning of the prisoner, To release those appointed to death,

“Teach us what we should say to Him, For we can prepare nothing because of the darkness.

You have heard my voice: “Do not hide Your ear From my sighing, from my cry for help.”
