Then someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”

So Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had purposed to defeat the good advice of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring disaster on Absalom.

Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice was not followed, he saddled a donkey, and arose and went home to his house, to his city. Then he put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died; and he was buried in his father’s tomb.

So it was, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, “Have we made you the king’s counselor? Cease! Why should you be killed?” Then the prophet ceased, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not heeded my advice.”

So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath subsided.

Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

Because they rebelled against the words of God, And despised the counsel of the Most High,

Arise, O Lord, Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword,

Let the lying lips be put to silence, Which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

For the Lord has returned the wickedness of Nabal on his own head.” And David sent and proposed to Abigail, to take her as his wife.
