And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”

And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.

But man dies and is laid away; Indeed he breathes his last And where is he?

His sons come to honor, and he does not know it; They are brought low, and he does not perceive it.

“My spirit is broken, My days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.

My days are past, My purposes are broken off, Even the thoughts of my heart.

As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils,

You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.

You turn man to destruction, And say, “Return, O children of men.”

Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; Nevermore will they have a share In anything done under the sun.

Sever yourselves from such a man, Whose breath is in his nostrils; For of what account is he?

The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, Was caught in their pits, Of whom we said, “Under his shadow We shall live among the nations.”

And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
