He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den; He lies in wait to catch the poor; He catches the poor when he draws him into his net.

For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor, To save him from those who condemn him.

“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the Lord; “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.”

The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set traps for me. Selah

As a lion is eager to tear his prey, And like a young lion lurking in secret places.

All my bones shall say, “Lord, who is like You, Delivering the poor from him who is too strong for him, Yes, the poor and the needy from him who plunders him?”

The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct.

For look, they lie in wait for my life; The mighty gather against me, Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord.

He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.

He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches, And he who gives to the rich, will surely come to poverty.

Like a roaring lion and a charging bear Is a wicked ruler over poor people.

What do you mean by crushing My people And grinding the faces of the poor?” Says the Lord God of hosts.

Also the schemes of the schemer are evil; He devises wicked plans To destroy the poor with lying words, Even when the needy speaks justice.

‘For among My people are found wicked men; They lie in wait as one who sets snares; They set a trap; They catch men.

He has been to me a bear lying in wait, Like a lion in ambush.

The people of the land have used oppressions, committed robbery, and mistreated the poor and needy; and they wrongfully oppress the stranger.

Will a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing?

The faithful man has perished from the earth, And there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; Every man hunts his brother with a net.

They take up all of them with a hook, They catch them in their net, And gather them in their dragnet. Therefore they rejoice and are glad.

You thrust through with his own arrows The head of his villages. They came out like a whirlwind to scatter me; Their rejoicing was like feasting on the poor in secret.

There is the sound of wailing shepherds! For their glory is in ruins. There is the sound of roaring lions! For the pride of the Jordan is in ruins.

But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.

But do not yield to them, for more than forty of them lie in wait for him, men who have bound themselves by an oath that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him; and now they are ready, waiting for the promise from you.”
