The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.

Be surety for Your servant for good; Do not let the proud oppress me.

Oh, that my ways were directed To keep Your statutes!

The proud have forged a lie against me, But I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart.

The proud have dug pits for me, Which is not according to Your law.

The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set traps for me. Selah

Let the lying lips be put to silence, Which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

Let not the foot of pride come against me, And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.

For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, Let them even be taken in their pride, And for the cursing and lying which they speak.

Now I know that the Lord is greater than all the gods; for in the very thing in which they behaved proudly, He was above them.”

As yet you exalt yourself against My people in that you will not let them go.

His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, And he is caught in the cords of his sin.

For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north;

“Those who see you will gaze at you, And consider you, saying: ‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble, Who shook kingdoms,

that Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men spoke, saying to Jeremiah, “You speak falsely! The Lord our God has not sent you to say, ‘Do not go to Egypt to dwell there.’
