Proverbs 9:8

Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

Let the righteous strike me; It shall be a kindness. And let him rebuke me; It shall be as excellent oil; Let my head not refuse it. For still my prayer is against the deeds of the wicked.

Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.

Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words.

A scoffer does not love one who corrects him, Nor will he go to the wise.

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward Than he who flatters with the tongue.

‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him.

Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”

So they told the king, saying, “Here is Nathan the prophet.” And when he came in before the king, he bowed down before the king with his face to the ground.

So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say such things!”

And King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” So they came before the king.

The wise in heart will receive commands, But a prating fool will fall.

A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

Strike a scoffer, and the simple will become wary; Rebuke one who has understanding, and he will discern knowledge.

But they held their peace and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, “Do not answer him.”

A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,

Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding.
