Surely, in vain the net is spread In the sight of any bird;

As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy man to those who send him.

He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.

The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.

The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns, But the way of the upright is a highway.

He who is slothful in his work Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.

Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger.

There are four things which are little on the earth, But they are exceedingly wise:

The ants are a people not strong, Yet they prepare their food in the summer;

How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep?

The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master’s crib; But Israel does not know, My people do not consider.”

“Even the stork in the heavens Knows her appointed times; And the turtledove, the swift, and the swallow Observe the time of their coming. But My people do not know the judgment of the Lord.

“But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;

that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
