Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases! For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men.

They speak idly everyone with his neighbor; With flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, But a man of understanding will draw it out.

Whoever falsely boasts of giving Is like clouds and wind without rain.

Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.

Which my soul still seeks but I cannot find: One man among a thousand I have found, But a woman among all these I have not found.

The faithful man has perished from the earth, And there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; Every man hunts his brother with a net.

Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.

Then Peter said, “See, we have left all and followed You.”

I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”

I have become a fool in boasting; you have compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you; for in nothing was I behind the most eminent apostles, though I am nothing.
