When the wicked comes, contempt comes also; And with dishonor comes reproach.

Hear, O our God, for we are despised; turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity!

Reproach has broken my heart, And I am full of heaviness; I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.

Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.

When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.

A righteous man hates lying, But a wicked man is loathsome and comes to shame.

If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.

In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.

Then Saul’s anger was aroused against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse, rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness?
